Productivity seems to dwindle a bit after the summer months. The weather gets bleaker, the days become shorter and the air slightly colder, all leading to a significantly noticeable decline in our overall happiness.
This isn’t so bad when you’re all wrapped up in blankets at home, sipping your 44th tea of the day. But, in comes Monday and we’re all being herded into work like cattle, miserable as anything. What is the remedy, we hear you wail? Let us guide you through our top office tips for boosting morale in the workplace.
Plan Something Exciting
Our first nugget of wisdom is to plan something exciting. A lot of your staff will have just come back from holidays over the summertime, and the return to the daily grind always feels a bit depressing compared.
This could be anything from a work night out to a team-building session. Give the people something to look forward to! We suggest giving everyone a list of options for activities, as not everyone will enjoy the same things. For example, someone with young kids might not be able to go out on the lash on a school night!
Make a Big Deal About Lunch Time
Everyone loves food. You also need food to live, so you’re killing two birds with one stone. Especially if you offer to pay! You’d be loved by the whole office with that swish move.
This gives everyone the chance to properly sit down, order what you want and just spend time with each other.
Bring Your Dog to Work
There are a few things that you have to be sure of before doing this. One, be sure that dogs are allowed in your building or office. Two, double check no one’s allergic to dogs or terrified of them. That’ll drag the morale down rather than boost it up!
It’s scientifically proven that having pets in the office not only boosts productivity but also reduces stress! So if you’re not sure what to do about doggy daycare, bring your pooch to the office.
Play a Game Or Two
You might be thinking “Well, games will make you less productive, won’t they?”. Our response to this is absolutely NOT. Nothing beats the afternoon slump like an old fashioned game. Why not partake in a quiz? Or a puzzle making session? Or even colouring in!
Sounds childish, sure. But, these exercises are proven to reduce stress and keep you calm. Pick a nice quiet afternoon and book your game of choice with your colleagues!
