2019 has been an absolute corker of a year. From vegan food scandals to sassy double-entendres printed on buses, we’ve been blessed with it all.
But, what has been the best marketing campaign of the year? That’s what we want to know.
Are these yours? Read on to find out…
It’s Not green… Or Is It? – Innocent Smoothie
Look, we all know this smoothie is green. It is undoubtedly green. It’s so green that we’ve never seen anything greener in our whole life. But, that’s obviously why it’s so funny. We love seeing brands interacting light-heartedly with their consumers online and it’s becoming an absolute MUST for brands to interact as such with their community across different social platforms.
Innocent nail their marketing, and it’s a great example which we usually show our clients when discussing brand communities. With the use of reactive marketing and celebrity endorsement, it’s hard not to notice this top pick.
The Return of Alan Partridge – BBC
Back in February, every BBC employee got a very odd email from a new colleague. Alan Partridge was back, and he announced it in a very odd, very formal mass email. This was to advertise the return of the quirky character in the new show ‘This Time with Alan Partridge’.
The email was classic Alan and in our opinion, the best way to advertise any BBC programme. Especially since they were essentially throwing shade at themselves. Amazing.
The Infamous Vegan Sausage Roll – Greggs
We’ve never seen a snack item create such a ruckus! Early in 2019, Greggs introduced the new addition to their menu, the glorious Vegan Sausage Roll. It’s 2019, and I think we all agree that Greggs updating their menu to be inclusive of different diets is encouraging. Well, maybe not everyone…
Piers Morgan went ‘Hold my beer’ and pretended to be offended. He created such a noise about something being vegan that he essentially did their marketing for them. And it worked! People started buying the new rolls left, right and centre.
But Piers didn’t stop there. Oh no. He then tried the roll live on ‘Good Morning Britain’ and pretended to be sick into a bucket. Classic Piers.
Bus Bants – Burger King
I’ve saved our fave til last. Unless you were living under a rock or in a very heavy coma in the last few months, you would have noticed that we had an election last week. Let’s not dive into too much detail there.
Burger King had us all cracking a much-needed smile with their cheeky bus advert. It reads ‘Another Whopper on a bus. Must be an election’. To be fair to them, it had us craving a burger or two!
We’ve spoken about reactive marketing before in our blogs, but this is a great example of how to do it right.
Do You Agree With Our Faves?
In summary, 2019 was a great year filled to the brim with good laughs and incredible marketing campaigns. The fact that we remember these brands campaigns shows how impactful a video can be. Brand awareness will always be important, even for the leading giants.
